concepts and art

I've recently found several folks who sell their art on the internet, in an interesting way- Anthony White and Sala are both doing a non-repetitive series of numbers (money and just numbers, respectively) that they sell for a price that is determined directly or indirectly by the number of the painting. Anthony White's pieces are very individual, and he seems to have increased in skill while doing them, but Sala's are deliberately identical and thus it's not possible to see skill or changes in them. I'm fascinated by the fact that there isn't necessarily talent involved in this process: they may or may not be good artists, but they are marketing geniuses, in that they are selling their art for steadily increasing amounts.
Is this what art is becoming? Or is it just a flash in the pan, from which art will return? The influence of computers and the internet is everywhere, and our art should reflect that, but not only that. Interesting.
